"It was the perfect combination of training and great photographic company in a fantastic location. I learnt how to transform my existing skills into what’s required for a photofilm and gained a valuable insight into interviewing and audio recording techniques – the visiting lecturers were the icing on the cake!"

The Hinterlands ethos

The Hinterlands offers the opportunity to learn and practice new skills with inspirational teachers in small groups. We invite you to share ideas and good conversation, eat lovely food in a big barn and talk photography until the cows come home. You’ll sleep in cosy yurts, beneath a blanket of stars and wake up in the morning to birds singing the trees.

We work hard to make sure you leave feeling nourished and fulfilled, able to move your own work forward and satisfied you’ve had great value for your money.

Mike Lusmore & Rebecca Harley

Mike originally trained as a Mechanical Engineer, but decided to pursue a career as a photographer working for the British press, cementing his love of photography.

Rebecca started her photographic career in 2001 as a press photographer, later specialising in women’s features. In 2010 she won the Press Photographers Year Multimedia award with her piece Memories of a house.

We are lucky enough to collaborate with some very talented people at The Hinterlands, and this year Brenda Ann Kenneally will be flying over from Brooklyn, New York and duckrabbit will be taking time out from training people all over the world and producing award winning multimedia.

We find exciting speakers to come and talk in the evenings, so when you sit down for a tasty dinner prepared by Olivia the cook, we all have lots to talk about.
